Are you ready for promotion?

It is the faculty members right to request promotion, the Office of Faculty Affairs strongly encourages you to speak with your department chair and/or division chief before you being the promotion process.  All promotion committees compare your activities with the SOM Factors,  please review the SOM factors for your rank.  Pay careful attention to the requirements for the rank to which you want to be promoted.  There is not a time served requirement for promotion at Wayne State University.  

Preparing your packet

Promotion request are accepted year-round.  

If you are a faculty member at one of our affiliates please work with the medical education administrator at your location to compile your dossier. (Affiliates are: Henry Ford Health System, Ascension (St. John's Medical Center), Veteran's Affairs Medical Center, Beaumont Dearborn (Oakwood).)   

If you are not connected with one of the affiliate hospital systems mentioned above, please contact your WSU SOM departmental administrator to compile your promotion dossier.

Components of a packet

Voluntary promotion packets should contain the following documents:

1. Voluntary Coversheet
2. Affiliate Chair Letter of Recommendation (if applicable)
3. WSU SOM Department Chair Letter of Recommendation
4. WSU Department P&T Committee Letter of Recommendation (if applicable)
5. Curriculum Vitae (School of Medicine Format)
6. Teaching Statement
7. Teaching Grid
8. Letters of Support (2 required from faculty at or above the rank sought)
9. Miscellaneous
