Full-Time Affiliate (FTA) Appointments

Full-Time Affiliate (FTA) appointments may be recommended by the WSU SOM department or through the Affiliate office when the candidate is a staff member working at a SOM affiliate location. WSU SOM Practice Plan recruits should be appointed as FTE faculty (See Hiring Memo) Appointment packets (see below) should be sent by the WSU SOM Department or Affiliate to the OFA by email to FAAppointments@med.wayne.edu.  Dossiers received for candidates recommended by an affiliate will be sent to the WSU SOM department for approval. Successful candidates may be appointed at the rank of Assistant Professor FTA, Associate Professor FTA, and Professor FTA; on one of the four tracks which include Clinician Educator, Research Educator, Research or Clinical Scholar.

Appointment Process

  1. The appointment process begins with the completion and submission of the 'Required Documents for Appointment' and 'FTA-Voluntary Appointment Checklist'.
    • The checklist indicates which entity or person completes specific forms.
    • Appointment documentation must be arranged in required format (i.e., SOM CV format); and use of WSU SOM Faculty Affairs standardized templates (where applicable).
  2. WSU SOM CV Format is required when requesting all ranks of FTA faculty appointments.
    • The OFA requires that completed appointment documents and dossiers be submitted electronically. Dossiers should be compiled using PDF Portfolio and submitted to the OFA email address: FAAppointments@med.wayne.edu. If PDF Portfolio is not available, scan all documents into a single .pdf.
    • The SOM mailroom provides secure mail delivery for flash drives and original signed documents being sent to OFA. OFA staff will collect all secure mail daily from a locked box located in the SOM (Scott Hall) mail room twice a day (morning and afternoon)
  3. The OFA will coordinate the appointment process with the appropriate WSU SOM department for dossiers submitted by an affiliate office.
  4. The OFA will copy the candidate, WSU SOM department, and the affiliate on all appointment correspondence, which includes requests for additional documents, changes to documents and appointment status.
  5. When the department is prepared to appoint, it will send the required documents to the OFA.
  6. Appointments are recommended by the Executive Committee of the Faculty Senate and approved by the Dean or his designee.
  7. All SOM appointments for FTA faculty follow the WSU policies for Voluntary faculty appointments, including required background checks and annual reviews.
